It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

So last week I learned to play poker with Danny's coworkers. Maybe I just had some beginner's luck, but I almost won! We played another kind of poker first, where you stick the card on your head, and I won that. Then on Saturday, Danny and I went to Namdaemun Market in Seoul. It's the huge indoor and open-air market in the middle of the city. It is the largest market in the country, and it's also the oldest (it apparently started in the 1400's). It has everything you can possibly think of to buy (well as far as the selection in Korea goes), and there are lots of imported goods as well. We went to shop for Christmas gifts, and we were pretty successful. Everything is also super cheap, because most of the stores at the market sell wholesale and produce their own goods. I loved the dried fruit and nut selections at the market. They sold sundried cherry tomatoes, which are so sweet they taste like candy. We also found candy canes (which are hard to find in most other stores here) for our coworkers. My school is doing a Secret Santa, and we are exchanging at a company Christmas Eve dinner Thursday night. I know what I'm getting my Secret Santa, but I can't tell...it's a secret ;-) After Namdaemun Market, we went across the street to Shinsegae Department Store. The store is so fancy and really expensive, so it was huge change from Namdaemun. I think the food section in Shinsegae rivals that of Hyundai Dept. Store. On Sunday we did a Costco run, and I finally found plain oatmeal. I made some today with soymilk, cinnamon, apple, and tons of dried fruit and nuts....it was absolutely delicious and tasted like warm apple pie! Sunday night we saw the new movie Avatar (or "Apata" as the Koreans say). It was incredible, and everyone should go see it! The plot was great and the visuals were breathtaking. Unfortunately, the theater was so crowded that we had to sit in the front row, so our view wasn't the best. We enjoyed it so much that Danny and I plan to go see it again on Christmas Day in IMAX 3D.
So tonight we will be having Indian food with Danny's coworkers, and tomorrow Danny is joining me at my school's Christmas Eve party. So I'll update some time next week! Have a Merry Christmas everyone!!
